Wave Race 64 Soundfont and Samples

There was no working soundfont or sample library for this game, so I made my own!

Voice Samples and SFX have been painstakingly pitch-corrected and categorized by instrument, sound effect type, and even speaker (to the best of my ability).

N64 Tools, iZotope RX, Audacity, and Polyphone were used to extract, process, correct, and loop the samples properly.

This was no small undertaking, as over 170 voice samples were encoded at various sample rates. These required manual editing and listening to references.

The entire process took several, several hours.

Perhaps the hardest part was removing duplicates, which were many, and naming samples. I had no way of reading the original patches or sample names, and as such had to rely on what I heard.

So, sample/patch names may be a little off. But, everything is there!

Regarding the soundfont, some loop points are not perfect, but I did manage to macguyver velocity regions for multi-sampled patches.

If I manage to find the original synths used, I'll make a new and improved version!

EDIT JUNE 7, 2025: This has been fixed! But I'd still like to find the original synths, if anyone knows what Kazumi Totaka used for this game!

EDIT, June 14, 2025: Realized the soundfont instruments are 30 cents flat and should be transposed by 6 semitones. This can be handled easily in sforzando and most sequencers. Little annoying but hey.
