CTK-2400 Drums

CTK-2400 Drums was sampled 11/2/2022 from a damaged keyboard gifted to me by Wayne Williams, owner of Meridian Underground Music, a favorite venue of mine in the Queen City.

CT is short for Casiotone, an entry level series of Casio keys. The 2400 is a bargain bin second-hand keyboard from tip to tail. It has NO velocity controls, NO mod wheel, and a 3.5mm AUX output. Thus, you actually get more functionality from samples than the hardware allows. Very weird, but for me, that was part of the charm.

I found a chunk of cool stuff on it: low fidelity, crusty patches, the kind that are coming back into favor in the advent of phonk, synthwave, and lo-fi. I wanted to unlock their potential in my DAW, and that actually worked out quite well!

I found the original drum recordings hidden away on one of my backup drives for 5 kits. I carefully cut and processed these to faithfully represent the distinctive sound of the CTK-2400, referencing a drum map by Performers Heaven.

KITS: 395 STD, 396 Room, 397 Synth, 398 Power, 399 Brush

Each kit uses the same toms and aux percussion samples, except 397 Synth and 399 Brush, which contain their own toms. 395 STD contains the auxiliary percussion and regular toms.
